This Room Used to be a Studio.

2008

Edwin Dickinson’s studio at Days’ Lumber Yard became the Walker Gallery at the Fine Arts Work Center. Down the road, the Hawthorne School, a 100-year-old painting school, was slowly falling apart. The sculpture of the stove was built en plein-air on the grounds of the school, where Dickinson studied, and installed in his studio’s original chimney along with tools to tend the fire and a drawing of a racing schooner named the Rose Dorothea. This imagined period room-style installation drew attention to forgotten art historical histories of Provincetown, MA, a place once known as an "art colony."
